Joseph W. Sims, P.E. is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Dakota, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and he is a licensed Master Electrician in Indianapolis, Indiana. Project engineering experience includes medium voltage electrical power, low voltage electrical power, motor control, emergency power generators, instrumentation and control, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, general lighting and power, telecommunication, network systems, pneumatic systems, renewable energy, and mechanical systems for buildings, industrial facilities, and utility infrastructure; project management, administration, and design-build construction. Experience in the engineering and construction industry totals approximately 35 years.

Thomas H. Durkin, P.E., LEED-AP is a Professional Mechanical Engineer. Recognized as an innovative and creative engineer throughout the Midwest, Tom directs all mechanical and plumbing engineering for Sims-Durkin Engineering.  Tom’s designs for buildings and systems are proven to be safe, energy-efficient and cost-effective. A nationally sought-after speaker and frequent ASHRAE author who promotes energy-smart HVAC systems, Tom is also a contributor to the U.S. Department of Energy.  He designed the first “Energy Star” school HVAC system in the Midwest.  In 1998, Tom presented one of his innovative systems to the United States Congress.  Tom has either invented or pioneered the implementation of eleven distinct HVAC innovations, all of which save energy and reduce pollution.  His work has been featured on the ABC Evening News and USA Today. Experience in the engineering and construction industry totals approximately 48 years.

Erick Smith, P.E. is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana, and he is a licensed Master Electrician in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Project engineering experience includes medium voltage electrical power, low voltage electrical power, motor control, emergency power generators, instrumentation and control, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, general lighting and power for buildings, telecommunication, network systems, solar PV and solar thermal renewable energy, and mechanical systems for buildings, industrial facilities, and utility infrastructure; project management, administration, and design-build construction.   Project experience includes projects of varying sizes and complexities.   He was an adjunct professor at Purdue University. Experience in the engineering and construction industry totals approximately 22 years.

Jeremy E. Farrer, P.E. is an Electrical and Computer Engineer.  Jeremy serves as our lead engineer for designing Instrumentation, Motor Control and SCADA (Supervisory, Control, and Data Acquisition) systems.  Jeremy has extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects.  Jeremy is a Project Engineering Team Leader for water and wastewater projects in particular and other projects on an as-needed basis.  Other Project experience includes Low Voltage Electrical Power Distribution, Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash Studies, Harmonics Analysis Studies, Thermal Analysis Studies, Networking, Programming. Engineering experience totals approximately 20 years and he has been employed by Sims-Durkin Associates Engineering Co since 2006.
